Posted on Thu, 12 Jun 2014
Question: My clitoris has been extremely swollen ( 1 in. Wide ) for three days now. I have recently had sex three days ago and immediately noticed my clitoris and labia were swollen... The labia went down but my clitoris became slightly bigger. I've tried bathing in warm water . and it hasn't budged. Its painful. Touching it isn't bad but anything against it is like extremely sore and tender. I think it might be bruised please help.

Brief Answer:
kindly send good resolution picture

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for swollen clitoris. After reading your query it appears that your clitoral area is secondarily infected due to trauma after vigorous sex. This is quite a common phenomenon where due to trauma the skin gets turned off and therefore the local bacteria enters into the skin leading to infection.

In view to help you best I request you to send a good resolution picture of the affected area. If you are unable to upload the picture, let me know the grade of redness over the area. Is it very deeply dark red or moderately red or mildly red. Also let me know the grade of tenderness on a scale of 1 to 10.

Hope to hear soon from your side.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
A course of antibiotic with pain killer tablets

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for posting important details and pictures.

I can make out that the area is really swollen and must be quite tender. In such a appearance it is quite possible to have pus inside. It can be treated with a course of antibiotic with pain killer tablets or may require drainage too. I suggest you to immediately meet your treating primary care physician so that at-least an antibiotic therapy should be started.

Till that time do not try to pinch, pop or squeeze the area. In my patients with such a problem I suggest to take a pain killer tablet such as Ibuprofen or Diclofenac by mouth for two to three times in day after meals till a close physical examination is done by a doctor. Since ibuprofen is available over the counter, you can start of with it and plan to visit the doctor.

Avoid intercourse for at least 3 weeks from now.

I hope these inforamtions will help you.

With best wishes of early recovery.

Thank you. but may I ask what of could be from or possibly be? No diseases right? Do you think it could be contagious or anything? Is it just from rough sex?

Brief Answer:
Not a sexually transmitted infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your further query. It is not at all any type of sexually transmitted infection or related thing. It is just due to rough or vigorous sex where the trauma to the local skin caused inflammation and probably the pus formation if at all.

So you should not be worried about any possibility of sexually transmitted infection or contagious nature of the swelling.

As requested before you require immediate antibiotic therapy and probably drainage. Avoid sex for few weeks to prevent recurrence.

I hope these information will help you. I will be glad to answer any further of your queries or if not then can close the discussion and rate the answer.

"With all my best wishes"
