Question: I have swelling around the vaginal opening and some bumps under skin around uretha. My labia was also swollen. I went to the doctor she gave me 2 doses of diflucan and checked me for STD's which I knew that wasnt it and that came back negative. With the medicine the labia for better. I have been using over the counter yeast infection medicine on and off for about a month and still have the smelling around vaginal opening. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Thanks so much for asking your question, I am working on a detailed answer

Detailed Answer:
The most common cause of the symptoms that you described is genital herpes. I know that you said that your doctor checked you for STDS, and that the testing was negative. however, do you know if he/she specifically tested you for herpes? if you tested negative for herpes, we would have to consider other possible causes for the swelling around the urethra.
the next most likely cause is some type of trauma, either from sexual activity, or from some other trauma to that area. if that is not possible, then I would consider the possibility of a vaginal or urethral cyst, or possibly a genital wart, or maybe Skene's duct cyst. these lesions are usually identifiable on an exam, so I would consider going back to the gynecologist for an exam.
it is also possible that the swelling is an allergic reaction to something, but I think that is unlikely to be confined to the area just around the urethra. one would think that if it was an allergy that the entire area would be affected.
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions or if you have more information that can help us figure this out.

I tested negative for herpies. There are the bumps like under the skin near the urethra. The swelling is around the vaginal opening. You can't see the opening because of the swelling around the vagina.

It is swollen on both sides but worse on left. But if you spread the swelling you can see the vaginal opening.

Thank you for the additional info

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Swelling like you describe would have to be either some kind of infection, or an allergic reaction to something. there may have been a cyst that got infected, or it still could be herpes, but I doubt that if the tests were negative. A really severe yeast infection could also do this, but that would be unusual for it not to respond to the treatments you've already gotten. The issue is that if it is an infection you would need antibiotics, and if it is an allergic reaction you could probably treat it with a steroid cream. It is crucial to get the diagnosis right because treating it with the wrong treatment will make it worse instead of better.

I wish it could be diagnosed online, but you really need to go back to the gynecologist and have him/her check it out. that is the only way to get the right diagnosis.
