What Causes Swelling And Pain In Hands Despite Having Normal X-ray?
Question: Hi! Yesterday I noticed my right hand's joints began swelling. While I was in the ER for my shoulder I asked the doctor about it and they did X-rays on my hand and he told me nothing is wrong. Today it is more swollen and it hurts in both hands. I have pictures to show you. Can you please help me?

No insect bites. Unless I didn't notice. Trauma - right hand has been fractured before. However the left hand is also swollen. I provided the pictures, did you see them? No itching but a burning feeling, almost like icy hot. Also it feels as if my hands are asleep. Very uncomfortable feeling. My father died of a blood clot. Circulation problems in the family. Yes there is a history of joint problem with my grandmother.

Thank you for getting back with the answers. I have gone through them as well as the images you attached earlier. There is high possibility that this could be allergic reaction. If i were your treating doctor then i would haev advised following things:
- Cetirizine one at night for 5 days.
- ibuprofen thrice a day for 5 days.
Hopefully you will see improvement in 2-3 days BUT if condition remains same or aggaravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.
