default
Posted on Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Question: I am a 63 yr female and have recently started having dizzy spells upon rising.
I must admit that my diet and lifestyle are on a scale of 10 to be a 3.
I am 5' 3" and weigh 138 lbs.
I am wondering what the onset of diabetes may be?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
I suggest to do the screening test of diabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear user
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

Common symptoms of diabetes:
Urinating often.
Feeling very thirsty.
Feeling very hungry - even though you are eating.
Extreme fatigue.
Blurry vision.
Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal.
Weight loss - even though you are eating more (type 1)
Tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands/feet (type 2)

You are not obese(a common sign of Diabetes Mellitus type2) and dizzy spells is not a characteristic symptom of diabetes.
Anyway my advice is to discuss with your doctor about your symptom and to the screening test of diabetes.
The diagnosis is based on measurement of fasting or random blood glucose level, or HbA1C level.
Diabetes can be diagnosed if the patient has :
-a fasting blood glucose level of 126 mg per dL or greater on two separate occasions
-a random blood glucose level of 200 mg per dL.
-an A1C level of greater than 6.5 percent on two separate occasions.

I suggest to talk even with a neurologist about your problem because in my opinion it can have a neurologic cause.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me.

Wish you good health
