What Causes Stomach Pain After Eating And Nausea?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Aug 2016
Question: My son is 18yr old (almost 19), athletic (baseball player), 6"3" 194 lbs. He went to Lake XXXXXXX with some friends and when he came back, started having stomach issues. At first, he would get sharp pains after eating. Now, he can't eat first thing in the morning because his stomach "doesn't feel right", and he gets nauseous, so he stops eating, and even if he's really hungry later, he'll eat, but get full very quickly. He normally ate meals and snacks throughout the day. One of this boys we say "will eat you out of house and home". He's getting ready to leave for college next week, and I am concerned about him leaving with this issue. He went to the Dr yesterday, and pretty much down-played it and they said they weren't concerned because he's not losing weight. However, my guess is that it just hasn't started....

Brief Answer:
Sounds like gastritis, give Prilosec twice a day.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your concern about your son.

I have gone through your question and understand what is going on.

It would be great if you could give a precise timeline of the events so far, that would help understand the severity of the ongoing issue.

That said, the problem most likely seems to be gastritis due to eating something /alcohol consumption while he was at the lake.

He doesn't have worrisome symptoms as of now, so please be relaxed.

You can give him Tab Prilosec 20 mg twice a day for the next 10 days.

For the nausea, you can give Tab Emeset 4 mg thrice a day ( I am not sure if this is available as OTC in your place).

If Emeset is not available OTC, then you can give Domperidone 10 mg thrice a day.

He must take these tablets 15 minutes to 30 minutes before eating breakfast or dinner.

Apart from that, he must refrain from drinking alcohol for the next 15 days, and junk and fried or barbecued food.

Drinking cold milk will help relieve the symptoms.

If you do not find any improvement with these measures, then please consult the doctor again.

Hope this will help you and your son.

Best regards .
