What Causes Stiffness In Neck And Jaw?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: I consider myself an extremely healthy female. Non-smoker, non-drinker and a 1 year vegetarian that eats fish and eggs. I had an extreme stiffness in my neck and jaw. Moments later I had what is described as a TIA or XXXXXXX stroke. It lasted 3-5 seconds. I couldn't focus on any faces and all sounds were distorted. The next day my complexion was extremely pale.

They did an ultrasound of my carotid artery and a CT scan of my brain. Both came back ok. They did blood work. My blood sugar is low and my b-12 is elevated.

I have an appointment to see a neurologist but really want to get some clarity on what it could possibly be.

Brief Answer:
Elevated B 12 level should be evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Stffnes of neck accompanied from stroke- like symptoms suggests any vertebral artery disfunction ( posterior blood supply of brain).

Elevated B12 level could be from overtaking this vitamine, liver disfunction ( e.g: cirrhosis) and myeloproliferative diseases (blood stem cells elevated production).

Stroke-like symptoms could be from 1.transient ischemic attack that doesn't appear in CT brain imaging,
2. low blood sugar
3. vertebral artery disfunction.

Another thing to consider is monitoring of your blood pressure.

So I suggest you to discuss with your Neurologist above mentioned possibilities of your concern and further tests needed to accurately diagnose your health issues.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
