Brief Answer:
Chronic Sinusitis is the most common cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. These are symptoms suggestive of chronic sinusitis.

2. Get a nasal examination, endoscopy and a plain Sinus CT done.

3. The Post Nasal Drip originates in the Para Nasal Sinuses. It causes Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. This causes the pressure, tinnitus (ringing in the ears)and dizziness. The ammonia smell is due to break-down products of infection and inflammation in the nose and sinuses.

4. Medical or surgical management is decided on the CT Scan findings.

4.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thank you! I have been chronic since August, which is when I checked into my college dorm room. I also have intermittent smells of Kool-Aid, powder & a dental office. As well as fatigue. Are they related to the sinuses too?

Brief Answer:
Yes, these symptoms are related.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, it is possible that all this started out as an allergic rhinitis after shifting to your college dorm room.

2. Due to their unique design, the ventilation of the para nasal sinuses occurs sparingly and passively. This may explain why you get varying smells of & on.

3. The nasal cavity and the sinuses have a large surface area through which the products of inflammation and allergy are absorbed into the blood stream readily causing fatigue.

4. Begin with the examination and treatment. You will see the improvement within a few weeks. Consider a change in your dorm room if possible.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
