Question: Hi Doctor,

Quick question:

My 3 and half year daughter, getting some body temperature [ only at body and head, not in her hand or leg ] only on morning time and 3 times in last 10 days we felt like very little watery blood came from her nose.

Details:
My daughter along with my wife travelled to my hometown(Bhawanipatna, XXXXXXX india) around 1500KM from where we are staying(Bangalore,India) on vacation plan. After 24 hr staying there, they again travelled to my in-laws house. After reaching there she got some body temperature and we though its because of the external weather temperature for around 48hr, but we also marked she was getting dull and we found difficulty making her eat or drink water. Later after 48 hr we started giving crocin syrup (Paracetamol Oral Suspension). Whenever we give this (Paracetamol Oral Suspension), the body temperature comes down in half hr. During this time except for first 48 hr, she was physically active. Over the next 5 days we gave Paracetamol Oral Suspension, based on the raise of body temperature. [ started with 6 hr interval for next around 36hr, then an interval of 9 hr for next 36hr, and then an interval of 12 hr.]

Mean while we did the meleria check and found no meleria. During the end of the course, we found small body rashes, which we believe, its viral fever and its came down. In this time period we checked once the body temperature and it was 102F. She is pretty active now and eating and drinking water now. She don't get sweat more except her head and the body temperature comes down, if she come stay in close to water cooler within half an hour and body stay XXXXXXX temperature evening onwards.

Few facts:
Current temperature in morning feels like 45 degree Celsius (113 F), and change in place and temperature. Currently its around 37 degree Celsius at XXXXXXX

We are suspecting, for after few day 0th day to 7th day she got viral fever, because of place change and later as she was not drinking more water and the weather temperature is high and she is not sweating, her body is increasing the temperature to match up with the weather.

She started taking more water around 1300ml around a day and eating nicely.

Please suggest.

Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Could be urti or typhoid fever

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM forum.
Can understand your concerns.

The symptoms that your child have could be due to upper respiratory tract infection or typhoid fever.

Since, on some days, she has fever around 102 Fahrenheit, we cannot take lightly the findings that only her head and hands are warm.

You should do Complete blood count, Typhie dot IgM, CRP levels to rule out infection.

In my opinion, antibiotic like Amoxyclav should be started. However, since this is a prescription medicine and all drugs in children are given according to weight, you should meet the local doctor for dosage of drugs.

This is not viral fever as viral fever subsides within 48 to 72 hours.

Review with above reports.

I hope this will help you.

Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
