Posted on Fri, 12 Dec 2014
Question: Ive had what I think is the flu since Thursday night. I now have small itchy bumps on my legs & ankle. What are these bumps and how can I treat them? You cant see them well in the picture, but theyre very small and close to 50 of them in the picture.

Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
I have seen the attached picture.
You seem to have developed a viral rash due to the flu that you are having .
But I would like to rule out a drug rash .
Kindly provide details about the medicines you have been taking for the flu in the past two to three days .
Also please tell if the rash is only over the ankle area and the feet .

I have been taking Tylenol Cold & Flu every 4-6 hours.

There is a large grouping of small bumps on my ankle, but theres also larger, single bumps on my legs. There are about 7 larger bumps on my legs. I also have 2-3 small bumps on one of my hands .

Brief Answer:
Viral rash ,should subside soon

Detailed Answer:
Hi

You seem to be developing a viral rash .
Such a skin rash is basically an allergic response of our body to the infection .
You can take some oral antihistamines along like Benadryl or levocetrizine.
You cAn continue with Tylenol .
Such a skin rash usually tends to subside along with the flu .But if in any case ,it tends to increase too much ,then see your local doctor since injectable agents might be required .

Could this be shingles or something more serious than the flu? I havent been tested for the flu. Ive just been treating it like the flu.

Brief Answer:
Looks like a viral rash

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

The skin lesions surely do not look like shingles or anything very serious .
They appear to be lesions of a viral rash but since only a proper direct examination can be confirmatory,I would advise you to plan an appointment with your gp .
For the time being ,you can take some oral antihistamines.
