What Causes Shortness Of Breath Along With Accelerated Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I have been experiencing not being able to to take a deep breath, along with upper back pain and a feeling of fatigue. I almost feel as though I have a cold that won't materialise! I have been having some problems in life when I have felt anxious and panicky. I also experience a fast heart rate when I become anxious as well. I am 36 years old. I don't drink and I am a normal weight. I am an ex-smoker. I gave up when I had my children (I have 4) but I have had the occasional one when socialising. I am feeling quite paranoid that it is something serious.

Brief Answer:
Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such symptoms are most likely caused by your mental state. Anxiety, stress can cause shortness of breath along with accelerated heart rate, sweating, sleeping problems, hands shaking, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
Such symptoms can be also caused by hyperthyroidism, caffeine intake (lots of coffee, lots of coke) or heart problems. Asthma or COPD due to smoking can also cause shortness of breath.
I suggest you to start with Magnesium 400 mg once a day supplementation along with avoiding coffee and caffeinated drinks.
If this wont help, please consult your doctor. Heart ECG and chest x-ray should be done and cardiologist consultation considered. There might be also a need to consult psychiatrist.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
