Question: I'm having severe spasms of the neck muscle into my head. I was concerned about a stroke. I took my blood pressure and it was 177/100 with a pulse of 70. I then took an additional blood pressure med and a hydrocordone pill for the pain also drinking about 24 oz. of water. what do you recommend to help me? I'm 83 yrs. old and female.

Brief Answer:
Use of heating pad or muscle relaxant is better choice

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I do not think neck spasms have any link with stroke and so firstly you need to stop worrying.

Secondly for muscle spams I think using heat pads or muscle relaxant will be better choice rather than hydrocodone.

Thirdly I like to explain that increase in blood pressure can occur due to multiple factors including muscle spasms.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

What do I do for the extreme pain in my head as a result of the spasm--Tylenol doesn't do a thing at least the hydroco/apap does give some relief after it takes effect. What do I take to relax so that I can sleep?
Would taking Valerian or Xanax help to relax?

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be taken

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I understand that Tylenol does not help much in spasms along with pain but as I suggested heat therapy application relaxes muscle to great extent thus reducing pain associated with it.

In addition xanax can be taken as it is good muscle relaxant and help patients to sleep. Considering your age I feel you should take minimum possible dose such as half tablet of 0.25 mg as it have side effects like cognitive slowing.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
