Question: Hi, I am 36 years old and I am overweight weighing 80kg at 5,4. I have been experiencing severe leg pain mainly when I lie down or sleep. It wakes me from my sleep and I lie awake in pain. It's my thighs and calves and really painful.
I do smoke and have for 4 years, could this be a factor. I asked a doctor a month ago and he dismissed it. It's been happening for 3 months now Atleast 3-4 times a week. I also suffer with severe headaches in the left side of my head and today I experience blurred vission in the left eye. Pls help thank you

Brief Answer:
Please provide some more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your health query.
I will need to ask some specific questions so I can understand some more details which will enable me to be of more help.

Is the pain in both legs or only in one leg?
Can you describe where exactly it is localized and if/how does it radiate?
You don't have no pain all all during the day, right? Only when you lay down?
If you have pain when you walk...is it in the same location? Is it worse when you go up or down the stairs?
Does it last all night? Does it change when you change position? What makes it worse and what better? (medicines you have tried?)
These 3-4 days of the week that you say that you have the pain, do you do something in particular that you think may be related? (eg. work more, get more tired, lift weights).

The same questions apply also for the headache.
Where is it localized? How can you describe it? How long does it last? From 0-10 how strong is it? Do medicines help it and what have you used? It is anything that triggers it or makes it worse?

I don't think these symptoms are related to smoking, but it may be related with anxiety.

Looking forward to your follow up question.

Hi,
It's mainly when I am in bed at night or asleep. The pain gets so bad it wakes me up and then it last for up to 2 hours. I try to move from side to side but it doesn't make a difference. I run my own business from home taking care of other people's dogs. I don't do a lot of exercise. I don't take any medicine for it. With my headaches they are like stabbing pains on the left hand upper side of my head. They can last all day and all night. I have taken Panadine forte one time as the pain was so bad. And I have thrown up a couple of times from the headaches. I do suffer with anxiety and depression. Some days can be stressful with the dogs but most of the time I seem to be ok with my depression and anxiety. Pls let me know if you need any further info. Thanks What type of physical exam do you recommend so I can advise the doctor? Our doctors are not very good. Can u pls be specific so I can tell them otherwise they don't do anything. Thanks :)Hi What type of physical exams do you recommend so I can advise my doctor? Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I was hoping for more insights. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Migraine type headache. Please answer all the questions about the leg pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I apologize for the late reply.

I read carefully your information.

What I understand from it is that the headache is a migraine type. You need to talk to your doctor about it and he will know to prescribe Sumatriptan or Rizatriptan, which are medications that are used as single dose in the case of the start of an episode of migraine. You don't need any test for this, because the way how you are describing it and all the symptoms that go with it, are very typical.

It is difficult for me to understand the leg pain because you haven't described where is localized the pain and all the questions I have asked you above. Every question of them is important because with each of them I rule out of confirm a possible diagnoses.
So fat I understand it may be a nerve pain, but it doesn't go with some other details.
So please, kindly go through all the questions that I asked about it and I will be happy to give my opinion.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
