What Causes Severe Hip Pain When Diagnosed With Bursitis?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Apr 2016
Question: I have seen my GP for right side hip pain. X rays showed nothing. Bursitis is what I'm being told but my hip pain is extensive. I lose sleep because I cant get comfortable position. I cant walk very long distances without the hip pain getting unbearable. The whole right leg is effected if standing, sitting or walking for more than 30 min. Is there any possible diagnosis or is there anything I can do about it? Is there further tests that can be performed to isolate my problem? Are there any therapies, medications, homeopathic treatments? Is there any help? Please tell me ? The pain is at times unbearable!

Brief Answer:
I would like to know little detail of this illness

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain in hip can be due to bursitis but it is usually bearable and never involve whole leg. So I think there can be other causes like nerve compression or hip arthritis. Before I advised you any further I would like to know little detail of the illness.
1.Since when you are having this pain?
2.Is it on front side or back side of leg?
3.Do you have difficulty in squatting, sitting cross leg?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

1. Pain has been for about a year.
2. Pain is on the side of the right leg and towards the back.
3. I can squat but need to pull myself up as weakness in my legs from squatting position to long but no pain. Sitting crossing my legs is painful but at the back of the knee.

That also brings up a detail I missed I have had bakers cyst at the back of my left knee twice if that means anything. Have not had it reoccur for over 3 years.

Brief Answer:
I think you are having nerve compression in back

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you are having nerve compression in spine which is causing pain in whole leg. Pain due to hip problems are felt on front side of the hip and pain of nerve compression is felt more on back and side. It can be confirmed with a spine MRI. Till you get MRI you need to take following medications.
1.Tablet Pregabalin M at night time.
2.Tablet Etoricoxib 90 mg one OD.
3.You may be having Greater trochanter bursitis, for this you can get steroid injection in hip.
4.Physiotherapy in form of back muscle strengthening exercises.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you. If MRI shows nerve compression then you might need surgery also.
thanks
