Severe stomach pains, 2 different treatments of 2 antibiotics ea along with nausea, 11 lb weight loss. CT scan says diverticulitis, sonogram shows only fatty liver, colonoscopy done out of town showed no polyps, etc. No normal bowel movements, only pink/red mucus. Family physician says he has no clue and apt with gastro doc isn't until sept 9 (been waiting 5 weeks). Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Few more investigations and feedback from you please.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your history.
To recapitulate: 67 years old - diarrhea 8 weeks no normal BM - only pink or red mucus - severe stomach pain and nausea - lost 11 lb - 4 different ERs- 2 antibiotics - CT scan shows Diverticulitis - sonogram shows fatty liver -*colonoscopy out of town , no polypi - Family Physician says no clue - appointment with Gastroenterologist not until Sept 9- wants suggestions.

My thoughts:
-Investigations already done and the suffering is continued ins spite of the treatment. The cause has to be found out as the proper diagnosis alone can help to get a proper treatment and cure.
- It is good that the colonoscopy and CT scan are not at least showing any mass/cancer.
- I would suggest a few more investigations:
Tests of blood for CBC (WBC for infection), anemia , blood sugar, kidney and liver functions, *thyroid function tests as diabetes and thyrotoxicosis can cause such problems.
Stool tests for three consecutive days- helps for diagnosis in some cases.
Please practically make a list of the foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problem and to stop it altogether.
Banana, curd/yogurt, activated charcoal tablets, pre and probiotics does help.

Please tell me few details for me to understand for me to assist you more:
May I please know the medicines taken so far?
Any bloating?
Radiation of the pain to the back or so?
Was metronidazole given?
What is the frequency of BM per day?

I shall be waiting to have a feedback from you so that we can discuss further.
With regards.
