What Causes Severe Bloating After Eating?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 May 2016
Question: Have a major problem with bloating (swelling of the abdomen) about an hour after eating. So they did an ultrasound on Thursday for the third time in years. The first 2 showed nothing as far as gall bladder and ect. The swelling bloating seems to be worse now, as it takes about 12 hrs for digestion and always wakes me up at night with the swelling bloating that takes forever to go away

Brief Answer:
Irritable bowel syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Yes this is a real service and you are in contact with real doctors.
Your symptoms are suggestive of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion and your normal investigations confirms the diagnosis.
I advice following in such cases:
1. A combination of Pantoprazole and Levosulpride.
2. A smooth muscle relaxant like Mebeverine.
3. To follow soft and bland diet.
4. To walk after all means.
5. Avoid alcohol and smoking.
These measures provide a very good relief.
See your doctor and share my opinion.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

So went to the doctor today who had the results of the ultra sound test / Said the only flaw was that the liver seemed to be enlarged / Do not mess with alcohol for years so she was not sure why it should be enlarged / I think it is swollen maybe because of the gall bladder / The main reason being that the main problem is under the right rib cage / Can tell that by when I put finger pressure in and under and get that awful nausea pressure irritation / So it seems that there is something wrong under there / Is no problem under the left rib cage, feels great there / In doing things by the way the health insurance needs it done, will have a function test done on Friday / Then as Dr XXXXXXX says , will go to the surgeon if that shows the need to remove the gall bladder / With all that pressure coming from under that right rib cage there must be something wrong going on there / As I said before this was the third ultra sound done in the past years to check the gall bladder mainly , plus all other organs in that area / So whatever is wrong there does not show up on the ultra sound tests / Oh well , will have the function test done on Friday and let you know the results / Later then !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brief Answer:
Go for HIDA Scan

Detailed Answer:
Liver can be enlarged due to Alcoholic and Non Alcoholic Fatty liver disease. Gall bladder issues don't cause liver enlargement.
If you still doubt for your gall bladder, i would say go for HIDA Scan before you go for surgery.
Good Luck.
