What Causes Severe Abdominal Cramps With Spotting, Diarrhea And Nausea?

Posted on Fri, 29 Apr 2016
Question: Hello,
I was diagnosed with "mild" PCOS in 2014. I am married and 27 years old. I am a veteran & the va healthcare is horrible so, I really don't have any health insurance. Recently I have been using a blend of essential oils (lavender, clary sage, etc.) on my abdomen to try to regulate my cycle "naturally" for about a month. I also have been working out at least 3 or more hours a week since January 13th. I haven't really changed my diet except that I have been drinking more water. My husband & I have had sex quite a bit this & last week. Everything was starting to go well... I've been getting my period by myself. Yesterday I started spotting & right now I'm currently experiencing the worst/severe cramping on my abdomen on both sides but more so on my right side. It hurts so bad that I am crying, not trying to move, laying down, & I've taken 2 midol & have a heating pack on it. I also have the diarrhea & feel like throwing up. What's wrong with me?... Am I pregnant or is it just cramps from cysts or my period coming? Help! XXXXXXX

Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
The pain could be due to Gastrointestinal disease,Cyst, impending menses or due to ectopic pregnancy.
But before giving my opinion I would like to ask you a few questions.
What was your last period date?
Have you done unprotected sex after period?
Any associated symptoms?
Hope to hear from you soon.

Umm, i think my last period started in mud-january. My cycles are usually very irregular. Yes, we have had unprotected sex & he didnt pull out. I took a pregnancy test 2 days ago & it was negative. We have been trying off & on for years to get pregnant but we've had no luck. I have never ever been pregnant. I just stared bleeding more but not a constant flow... Like a crimson red color. My spotting the past 2 days has been a pink/brownish color and I've been really tired lately. Also, my body is clearly storing water because ive been gaining weight like crazy.... I went from 215 to 220 in a week.

Brief Answer:
Get your TVS.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for the information.
You should consult a Gynecologist and get your TVS( transvaginal sonography) test done to rule out ectopic pregnancy and blood beta hcg testing.
If we rule out ectopic pregnancy than this pain could be due to PMS caused by hormonal disturbances or due to ovarian cyst.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Good luck.
