What Causes Sensitivity Around Left Shoulder And Shoulder Blade Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Apr 2016
Question: Hi, I have had shingles twice before and pretty much know the symptoms but for the last week or 2 I have experienced a similar sensitivity around my left shoulder. The skin surface feels like it has been in contact with stinging nettles, the area is sore, but there is pain in the shoulder blade area which now seems to be creeping across to the other shoulder. Could this be shingles again, otherwise I feel fine with no other symptons.
Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Shingles

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

The symptoms which you have described can be of shingles because in prodormal stage there can be pain, tingling sensations, sensitivity to touch and in some people pain can be there without ever developing rash. In active stage rash can develop which may wrap around the body either to left side or right side. Risk factors for shingles include older age and immuno compromised state, also complications are more common in elderly people which include postherpetic neuralgia. As far as treatment is concerned , its symptomatic pain killers including piroxicam and gabapentin , anti virals such as famciclovir for reducing multiplication of virus. The involved skin can be covered with non stick bandage both to prevent spread to others and to protect the skin. For prevention you can get vaccinated with zoster vaccine as you had shingles before and this also signify weak immune system.

Please consult your doctor before taking any further course of action

Wishing you best of health
