Brief Answer:
pepcid, zantac or tums

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The acid contents of the stomach can sometimes be regurgitated with food and cause significant discomfort.

Immediate treatment would involve: (1) would need to consider discontinuation of the fried foods which can worsen acid reflux in some persons

(2)medication such as zantac, tums or pepcid which should be available over the counter would help as well

IN the long term, the main aspects of treatment are: (1) medications such as prilosec, prevacid, nexium, protonix

These medications are in a different family from those mentioned before, they may not have an immediate effect but they would have a better long term effect. They would help to prevent future episodes if used consistently.

(2)lifestyle changes such as- reducing the use of spicy/fried/citrus/fatty foods. These can worsen reflux.
Includes tomatoes, onions, caffeine, mint

(3)small frequent meals rather than large meals

(4)waiting 2 hours after eating before laying down

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I never eat fried foods and eat like a rabbit. I do however love my sweets and my coffee (4 cups of espresso per day). Sometimes this reaction comes from a single sip of water. I do lie down after eating so thank you for that tip !
Would I be well advised to see a specialist for stomach ulcer or gallbladder problems ? Thank you

I ended up swallowing a couple of tums and after a full hour of vomiting, it ceased ... but then I was afraid to eat so I took an Ensure, should I have eaten anyway ?

Brief Answer:
you did the correct thing

Detailed Answer:
HI

NO, you did well by just using the ensure, if your stomach was not back to norm, the food would have upset it again.

You should consider a gastroenterologist (doctor who specializes in disease of the GI tract) if the symptoms continue despite treatment.
In most cases, your GP can initiate treatment and may also suggest an ultrasound to take a look at the gallbladder if you have abdominal pain.

Please feel free to ask anything else
