What Causes Recurring Diarrhea And Low Blood Sugar Levels?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Apr 2016
Question: I have had diarrhea off and on for eight days. I went to the express care and my blood sugar was 41. The nurses gave me 3 glucose tabs and sent me to the hospital. I told the ER nurse that I had been sent to have a dextrose IV. I forgot to say that I had had problems for 8 days. The nurse told me to go home and have a peanut butter sandwich. Today my blood sugar was low at 61. I ate a good dinner tonight; I took my blood sugar and it was 61. I ate some yogurt and the numbers did not go up. What should I do?

Few more clarifications, please.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for writing to HCM. Noted the contents of your query.

Your blood glucose has been clearly and consistently low which is not the best for your health. It could be related to a mismatch between your medications and meal intake. May I know what medications you are presently on for diabetes?

As of now try to have a proper meal - say for instance a couple of slices of bread, some cheese and definitely some fruit. Keep an eye on your sugars. It should rise in sometime. Don't over exert yourself.

We will need to find out the cause of your loose stools as well. That can dehydrate you. So frequent lime juice with added salt, rice porridge, tender coconut water can be taken as well. Do you have a fever?

Please let me know what meds you are on?

Regards.
