What Causes Rectal Bleeding Along With Constipation?

Question: I have a history of hemorrhroids which had to be removed surgiically two years ago. I have had rectal bleeding for about a week. The color of the blood is dark red and is clotted when I try to have a bowel movement. I have been unusually constipated. Am following doctor's advice not to strain since surgery. Should I contact my PCP to report this bleeding. I am 48 year old female in good health, non-smoker but am currently overweight.

Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Although there are chances of hemorrhoids returning after surgery,you should still be examined and investigated again.
There can be various reasons for rectal bleeding other than hemorrhoids like ..
Anal or colon polyp,anal or colon cancer,anal fissure etc.
Since you are complaining of dark blood and clots,this means that blood is coming from somewhere up which doesn't happen with hemorrhoids .
Hemorrhoids cause fresh bleeding without clots.
