What Causes Raised Blood Glucose Levels?

default
Posted on Sat, 2 Aug 2014
Question: Why my blood fasting glucose raises after it falls to 80mg?
I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. In the last two months, I went on a low carbs diet (meat and vegetables only with occasional cheats).
3 scenarios:
1. When I do cardio with a blood glucose level of 90mg, if I check my GBL 30 minutes later, it will by 10 points according to my chart. I exercise twice a day (morning and night)
2. When I go to bed with a blood glucose level below 90, I will wake the next morning with 10 points higher.
3. If I go to bed with a glucose level above 100, it will be lower in the morning.
Is this normal? Should I eat something before I go to bed?

Following answers to your queries...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

1. It is normal for the blood glucose levels to raise after having physical activity. After a while, they will get back to normal again. That is perfectly normal.

2. With regards to morning blood sugar (bs), there are many factors that contribute to them:
- morning hormones (they will give a boost to your body to start the new day)
- what you have consumed at bedtime
- medications you take at bedtime (perhaps you might need to adjust the dose).

Have a blood sugar below 90 is perfectly normal. If you find it the next morning 10 points higher (i.e. 100), that is also normal too due to factors mentioned above.

3. Now, here you are giving 2 scenarios: 1. going to bed with bs lower than 90 and 2. higher than 100.

In both scenarios, I find your blood sugar within the normal range: 1. it is 10 points higher and 2. it is lower than 100

Please bare in mind that there are many factors contributing to blood sugar levels. Such changes in your blood sugar makes me think that your body is trying to control BS in the most perfect way.

If you are not having any symptoms of hypoglycemia, then, no need to take any snack at bedtime (if bs will drop less than 70, should take any snack).

You should have at least 5 meals /day (breakfast- 8.00 am; snack - 10.30 am; lunch: 1.00 pm, snack 4.00 pm, dinner 6.00 pm).

Hope it answered to your queries! Let me know your specific bs records to analyze them further!
