Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: I have three cysts on my left breast. One I could feel and that is why I went to the doctor. It was about the size of a golf ball, but it did decrease in size after about a week and a half. I had a mammogram and ultrasound and was told the cysts were benign. Now the cyst is felling larger the skin is discolored red and purple. This morning I also noticed that it is bleeding. I have an appointment with my doctor for tomorrow. What is this?

Brief Answer:
Might be infected breast cysts

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through you query in detail.
It is possible that one of the cysts might have developed an infection. Breast cysts don't require treatment unless a cyst is large and painful. In that case, draining the fluid from a breast cyst can ease your symptoms. The discoloration and tenderness over the skin is most likely indicating an infective process within. Your doctor may draw the fluid out under aseptic precautions under local anesthesia and also give you oral antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicines to be taken orally for a few days.

Hope your query is answered.
