What Causes Persistent Red Spots On Forearm And Leg?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: My husband is having red spots appearing, about 1/2"--1" in size. They have a dry scaley looking center. So far they have been on his forearm and leg (below his knee). They seem to go away in a few weeks. Is there anything we can do at home to take care of it. Dermatologists are booked months in advance, here. It's similar to the look of ringworm, but doesn't have a raised ring around it. It doesn't seem to be contagious.
Thank you for your help.
PS; could send a picture if I had your email address

Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

From what you have described of his skin changes it sounds like this may be a case of psoriasis. So racist can cause skin lesions to occur in multiple areas of the body.

Typically psoriasis affects elbows and knees and sometimes hands as well. It can also affect the scalp. to some degree additional areas of the body may be affected as well.

Typically topical remedies prescribed by a dermatologist can help alleviate the symptoms. Sometimes over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream might help as well. You could try that as a short trial on some of the areas that he is affected by now to see if this helps.

I think it is very important that he sees a local dermatologist to have this looked at directly and to confirm the diagnosis.

Sincerely,
