Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: Hi there, and my BP last taken was 130/70 and I have had shoulder surgery in my left arm (2010) and recurring pain in the arm since. Over the last few days I have tingling in my left index fingers and my arm has been heavy and sore in my elbow, my wrist, my shoulder and there are times where my whole arm is just uncomfortable and I have periods where my resting heart rate is a little elevated (between 90-105 bpm) and I am really just concerned that I am having heart issues and I feel like I am making it worse by worrying about it constantly

thank you for your advice

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms (tingling in the left index fingers, heaviness in the arm) are related to a possible pinched nerve, possible caused during shoulder surgery.

Your actual blood pressure values are within the normal ranges. So there is nothing to worry about.

The elevated heart rate could be explained by the pain or anxiety, but it does not indicate any underlying heart disorder.

So, relax! Your symptoms are not related to any cardiac disorders.

Coming to this point, I would recommend performing some additional tests to investigate for the possible causes of finger tingling:

- a nerve conduction study to examine the nerves in your upper limb
- a cervical spine X ray study to exclude possible chronic degenerations of the cervical spine (including a bulging disk) which could also mimic this symptomatology.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
