What Causes Persistent Headache, Muscle Aches And Bone Pain Despite Taking Medication?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Aug 2015
Question: I work in a SNF, as an OT. I started with a headache weds. night, which did not resolve completely. Thursday it became progressively worse. I had taken a sinus relief pill, then a migraine pill 5 hrs later. Headache got worse, not better. Muscle and joint pain came on. Muscles mainly hurt in my quad muscles (though radiating to my toes), and bone pain is mostly in sacram, radiating to my hips. Took my temp. and noted it to be 101.5, so I took all a shelter nighttime to try and bring temp down and pain, so I could sleep. I had taken a Neurotin and put cold packs at sore/painful areas a few hrs before. Fever broke on day 3. Day 4, headache still and muscle aches at quads, bone pain at sacram, temp 97.5. I have Fibromyalgia diagnosis from 12 yrs ago. I give myself 3/10 of 1 ml of B-12 every week, vit c 2x a day, Alive Multi vitas for 50+ woman, and Ibuprofen 1-2x a day as needed for muscle aches. Trying to figure out if what type of Dr to go make an appt with and the poss. DX I have to be treated?

Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

Well, the sort of symptoms you have described does look like you went through a serious viral illness. The muscle pains you are having is quite common after a viral infection, and normally tends to go away with time. I am only worried that it may trigger your Fibromyalgia more which can make the muscle pains even worse.

For now I would suggest you take adequate rest and supplement yourself with Vitamin D Supplements as well which will help ease out the muscle pain you are having. Keep yourself high on fluids. Try using Tylenol for pain rather than Ibuprofen.

These sort of muscle aches after viral infection usually go off with time. IF they are still persisting after a couple of days, get your CPK and LDH levels done which are the markers for muscle inflammation. Meanwhile you can schedule an appointment with a Rheumatologist. Since the appointment takes quite some time there, you can give yourself this much gap to see if you recover fully. If u do, you may not need further consultation.

I hope the information was useful
