What Causes Persistent Frequent Urination While Treating UTI?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jan 2017
Question: I have a severe urinary tract infection. My doctor prescribed 500 mg. Ciporfloxacin HCL. It didn't help so on Sunday night I increase my dosage to 1000 mg twice a day. At first it helped, but now I have frequent sometimes urgent need to pea. Do I think if I continue taking the 1000 mg for 10 days it will clear up the infection? Should I ask for 1000 mg 3 times a day? Or is there something else that will clear up the infection, without a lot of side effects?

Brief Answer:
You should not increase the dose of Cipro of your own .

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have UTI and you have been taking Ciproflxacin 1000mg twice daily

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Have you done urine culture before started taking Ciprofloxacin ?

Maximum recommended dose of Ciprofloxacin even in severe infection is 750 mg twice daily .

The reason for not getting response with Cipro may be due to fact that organisms may not be sensitive to Ciprofloxacin .

Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin and Flavoxate twice daily with urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
