What Causes Persistent Dark Urine?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jun 2016
Question: About four weeks ago I had a very dark urine for a couple of days. I went to and istacare and they ask if I had been doing a lot of work lately. I told them I had been working out in a fit course three or four times a week. They said my protein was high in my urine and put me on an antibiotic and it cleared up. I am still doing the 3 or 4 times a week workout and have been on a statin for over 10 years. I just read about Rhabdo and now am concerned if that is what i had. I have had no unusually sore muscles and have had clear urine since those two or three days about a month ago. Should I have more tests or just watch to see if it happens again?

Brief Answer:
You need not worry since it has already cleared.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Muscle turnover is likely to increase if you are excerising heavily. The darkness of urine could be due to myoglobin in urine. However, since it has already cleared off, I would not worry and would not insist on further testing. It is unlikely to recur but you will know in case it occurs. Get a routine microscopy and culture of urine along with an occult blood test done in such a case. Else you need not worry.

Drink plenty of water.
