What Causes Patches Of Swelling On Penis?
Question: MY 17 YR OLD SON IS COMPLAINING ABOUT PATCHES OF SWELLING ON HIS PENIS- NO DISCHARGE AND DOES NOT HURT

You son has noted swelling patches on his penis. Is he circumcised? Are this patches red and are they itching?
There several causes of red patches on the penis. The most common cause is skin sensitivity from allergy to a detergent or fabric softener. I recommend at this time that he try using hydrocortisone cream once daily fro 1 week to see if this resolves the rash
If the rash doe snot respond then he could have a fungal infection of the skin. This infection can start spontaneously. For the fungal infection I recommend starting tinactin or Lamisil powder or cream on the rash for a week or two. If either of these treatments do not help then I recommend that he be seen by his doctor for a better diagnosis and treatment.

1. Contact dermatitis
2. Hydrocortisone cream OTC for 1 week
3. Fungal infection
4. Anti-fungal cream or powder tinactin or Lamisil
5. if no improvement then see doctor
