What Causes Panic Attacks, Persistent Anxiety And Numbness All Over Body?

Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: Could I have creutzfeldt jakobs disease? I'm 19 years old and about two months ago I had panic attacks out of the blue, followed by persistent anxiety. The doctors put me on wellbutrin but it hasn't helped. I've been getting progressively weaker in my muscles and I have fully body numbness that is persistent, I also have trouble sleeping and I feel out of it. Could it be cjd? What else could be wrong with me?

Brief Answer:
CZD is highly unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to answer your query.

(Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease) CZD is seen in old age and is a rare disorder which is characterized by progressive dementia(loss of memory).
Do you have family history of CZD?
Do you have any stressors(family, friends etc who bother you)? Are you afraid of anything like exams?
When do you have these symptoms of anxiety?Do they happen in a particular situation?
Any previous medical or surgical history?

I have no family history of the disease, and I have a healthy relationship with my family. I don't have a fear of exams. Symptoms started with a cold and panic attacks. I was diagnosed with depression even though I'm not depressed. After about a couple weeks of psychiatric symptoms, i began to have weakness in my limbs and persistent sensory loss. I then stopped taking my antidepressants as I thought they were causing my physical symptoms and at first it did alleviate some symptoms for about a week but then I got the flu and the symptoms came back and started to get worse. Right now my whole body is partially numb and my muscles are extremely weak especially in my face. My symptoms don't fluctuate they just get worse. I've had a ct scan and mri of brain but they were both normal What do you think is wrong with me, I'm suffering.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of autoimmune disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.

Thanks for sharing the information.

Suggestive of autoimmune disorder. I were to do sensory neural examination, test the strength of muscles. I would ask for labs(CSF analysis), EEG and do nerve conduction tests. This gives a fair idea if these symptoms are caused by autoimmune disease(like Guillian Barre syndrome).

Hope this answers your query.
