What Causes Palpitation And High BP When Suffering From Hashimoto's Disease?

Question: Hi, I am 39, was diagnosed with Hashimoto's six years ago, has a biopsy and result no cancer. I am on Armour 45 mg. Usually have heavy periods. Last month, on August 3rd, the period was not heavy and lasted three days only. On Aug 15 I had a light brown spotting for three days and on Aug 31, I had again a very less spotting, very light brown for three days and it stopped . After this, I feel anxious, last night I had palpitations and elevated blood pressure 130/103, 126/79 and this morning was 121/76. I still feel a little anxious. I experienced anxiety in the past, gained some weight, I stay active. Is this a hormonal imbalance, premenopause synthoms? I also experience lower back pain. Any tests recommended?

Noted your concern.
Anxiety itself can cause blood pressure variation. I would like to know if you also have episodic palpitations and headaches? Any sweating during these episodes?
I presume you had a thyrood nodule and the biospy was okay. HAs the nodule grown XXXXXXX bigger?

First time when happened I had cold sweats and shivering at night. It was two times only last year in February. The second time I went to ER with panic attac/anxiety. Since then I was fine, taking vitamins, I was diagnosed with Pyroluria (flushed iron and B thru urine)The nodule was visible when discovered and it gets inflamed before periods. After periods went back to normal. Right now it is a little bigger, but no period. I also had stress for years and restless sleep.

Noted the history.
None of the above symptoms are related to Hashimoto's disease. However, in view of your symptoms and a thyroid nodule, it is worth doing a fasting serum calcitonin level ( make sure you are not on a pill for acidity when you do this test). You also may require a 24 hour urine test for metanephrines and normetanephrines + Serum metanephrines.

These tests are to rule out excess adrenaline/noradrenaline secretion (pheochromocytoma) which can present like episodic palpitations, anxiety like symptoms and high blood pressure.

If these tests are normal, we may consider the diagnosis of anxiety later. Till then, it is iappropriate to label your symptoms as anxiety.
