What Causes Pain In The Right Leg And Blockage In The Heart?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jan 2017
Question: Hi, I'm a 68 year old man, I just found out that I need a double bypass that me surgeon stated today! I went because i had a pain in my right leg, never a pain in my heart. I went though numbers testing. My heart is healthy no sign of any problems. He said they found the right artery to be blocked 99 % and other side to be 80 %. I ask him if there is something that could be done besides a bypass he stated (NO).Should I ask for a second opinion? I feel that I'm making a mistake by just trusting one person with my life! He also stated that if don't do this that i'll be dead in 6 months or so. because it will damage my good heart!
Can you help me here?
Thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Both CABG or PCI should be discussed

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

He is right that there is a need for intervention, otherwise you are at risk of developing heart attack.
For such cases two versions should be considered CABG and PCI (stenting), the second one is an invasive procedure without opening the chest. For two arteries stenting may be considered, when there are more that two arteries or one or two arteries with difficult anatomic structure, then bypass may be considered.
If you can upload the video of your angiography I may have a look and tell you what I think, or you may take it to another doctor who performs such procedures and have a second opinion. Just don't panic.

Take care
