Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: I am 35 years old and I have been having a very painful pain on the right side of my pelvic joint area that radiates to my right tigh, knee and ankle. Sometimes i felt the pain on my lower abdomen connected to my pelvis. It hurt to beND foward and I limp when walking sometimes. The pain also radiate to the left side of my back and lower back. Though I have history of chronic lower back pain. The pain started when I fell on my buttocks 5 years ago and it has been going since then. I have three kids, with two c-section. During my third pregnancy I had a chronic pelvic pain. It was difficult to lay or roll over in bed, and when put pillow between doesn't feel better. The pain started 6 month into my pregnancy and went away after delivery then came back again two months after delivery, but my pubic bone Crack whenever I moved and I can hear the Crack. That went a way. Until when I found out that I have a gallstone and my gallbladder was removed two months ago. This pelvic pain has been goings-on for almost three months now. I thought the pain will be gone after my gallbladder was removed, but no. I had an intenal abdomen ultrasound done and everything came out normal. I haven't had my pap done in almost two years. The doctor want me to have a pelvic exam done next. I am so confused because the pain is so uncomfortable. My tigh, knee and ankle feels numb whenever it radiates to those are. I am so confused. Any insight will be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Can be a spine related cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The pain of the lower side of your back radiating to legs with pain on bending can be due to-
1. Lumbar muscle strain- due to tear or pull of muscle fibres.
2. Infections like paraspinal abscess.
3. Lumbar disc herniation, sciatica, etc.
4. Arthritis or ankylosing spondylosis.
5. Weak core muscles-Strengthening the muscles that support the spine helps keep the spine in its proper position and reduce risk of sprains, strains and lower back pain.
6. Vitamin D3 deficiency.
Proper diagnosis involves investigations like ultrasound of the abdomen, X-ray and MRI of the spine after an examination by your primary physician.
The treatment will then depend on the cause.
Hot fomentation and oral muscle relaxants can provide a temporary relief till then.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Spondylosis likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The cracking sound in the lower spine is likely to be due to spondylottic changes in the spine. MRI scan of the back will help in proper diagnosis.
Hope my answer is helpful.
