What Causes Pain In Lower Abdomen, Belching And Vomiting?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: My husband awoke this morning with pain in his lower abdomen. He immediately vomited the one cup of coffee he drank and has eaten nothing since. He has continued to vomit throughout the day and is belching incessantly. He does not want to call or go to the doctor. We are scheduled to leave on vacation tomorrow. Could this be serious? Any thoughts on what might be going on? Thank you! XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
needs investigation and treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
History of pain and incessant belching and vomiting- vacation, noted.

As your husband started with lower abdominal pain followed by vomiting which has continued throughout the day, I would think of an intestinal problem. The belching is incessant.

All this indicate there may be severe inflammatory process going on inside the abdomen. Continuous vomiting will lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. And this can not be neglected at all.

How can really go for a vacation with such a condition?
There may be further symptoms like loose motions, distension, fever; and further complications because of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

He needs at least injections for stopping vomiting, investigation to find the cause of his present complaints and treatment of the underlying cause. Peptobismol alone will / is not helping.
I hope this helps you to take further steps.
