Question: Hello, I recently had Ortovisc injections in both knees and have been experiencing calf and ankle pain. Is this a side effect of this medicine. Couldn't find much info on it.

Brief Answer:
Ortovisc is not culprit behind all your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

From your history it seems that ortovisc is not culprit behind all your symptoms because injection in knee joint would not cause pain in ankle joint. I also advise ortovics in paitents but first I usually see the xray of joint, because it is not indicated in severe arthritis.

I would like to provide you the side effects of ortovisc in detail.

Ortovisc treatment consists of three or four consecutive, weekly injections given by a trained healthcare professional in his/her office.

Most commonly reported side effects of ortovisc are joint pain, back pain and headache. Others include temporary pain at the injection site.

Serious side effects are closing of the throat, difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, if these occur then contact your doctor’s office immediately.

Ortovisc treatment should not be given to patients with infections or skin diseases in the area of the injection site.

I hope it helps.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.
