What Causes Pain Behind Ear After Wearing New Glasses?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Nov 2015
Question: I have been wearing contact lens since the age of 15 yrs. I am now 24. I've recently when to eye dr. and purchased glasses. However, when I attempt to wear them for any length of time I get severe pain on the side of my head just above/behind my ear. It's as though I can feel the blood pulsing in my head. I can actually see a large vein swell. I become nauseous, dizzy, sometimes lightheaded and the pain only lets up when I remove my glasses. I have spoken to my ophthalmologist but he doesn't seem to have an idea what could cause this. The pain also intensifies with activity. Any suggestions on what this could be would be much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
change glasses.

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
As the pain starts only when you wear glasses and lasts as long as glasses are used,we can ssfely assume that glasses areat fault.
Go ahead for change of glasses, get a recheckup for change of power of glasses. when you get a new power use thst for at lesst 15 minutes in the optecion's office. That trial gives us an idea about acceptability of new power.
Any further query in this regard please do get back to me.

Thank you for your quick response. I have however, changed frames and was told my prescription is correct. The symptoms remain.
With this .. I'm assuming I am not able to tolerate glasses and need to continue to wear my contacts as I have.

Brief Answer:
change power

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for getting back to us .
Changing frame is not supposed to help. You have to het a new power of glasses. If possible get a new optometrist and see the difference in power.
Contacts are fine but you have to have a backup of glasses as well. situations like redness of eye you are advised to use glasses and not to use contacts. There is no reason why you should not have wearable glasses.
