Brief Answer:
Due to temporary compression of superficial nerve fibers

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

It seems to be soft tissue over knee. Numb feeling might be due to temporary compression of superficial nerve fibers by injury or associated swelling.

I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination.
Meanwhile you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

I am always reluctant to see the doctor as I am really busy so wonder if there is a need to see the orthopaedic surgeon or even a general practitioner. It is not too painful and healing well as I left it open and I was just worried when it was warm and swollen but i have not rested at all so that is probably normal. The increased bruising is probably only normal so it was only the numb feeling to the touch that bothered me. How long do you think it is normal to experience numbness to touch?
