normal variant

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM

You are concerned about a difference in appearance of the rib cage. Are you asking about yourself or your child?

If it is in you then this maybe just a normal variant. Humans are not completely symmetrical and will frequently have one side different than the other. As long as the chest is not painful or impair breathing then there is nothing to worry about. This change could be from trauma like a car accident with fractured ribs or it could just be congenital.

If the change is in you infant then it could also be just a normal variant. It would be very unusual to have rickets in a child that young and living in the United States. In countries where nutrition is not very good and milk is not fortified they can develop rickets or vitamin D deficiency. But here in the US our milk is fortified to prevent vitamin D deficiency.

It would be for an infant. There is no bruising, no tenderness, no pain when touched but it is something I never noticed before either .

Brief Answer:
Probable normal variant

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for clarifying

Since you infant is otherwise normal I would not be to overly worried about the deformity. These changes do not impede his breathing and otherwise does not cause any problems. If you are still concerned please send pictures so I can get a better idea at the extent of the deformity. Take a picture of the from and of his back
