Hi,

Thanks for your question.

Can you give me some further information to help answer your question.

How old is your daughter?

Does she have any other symptoms such as weakness or pain?

Is she limping?

Does she have any medical problems?

Does anything like this run in the family?

Thanks and look forward to hearing back from you.

best wishes

Brief Answer:
A number of possible diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I assume you mean numbness in her shin not chin?

If it is her chin and she has had weakness in her left arm and left leg then this would suggest a central problem i.e. in the brain. This would need to be investigated with an MRI scan.

The numbness in the leg could be explained by nerve entrapment in the lumber spine. Usually this would be associated with pain in the lower back and sciatic pain radiating down the back of the leg from the hip to the foot. Again this diagnosis could be made on an MRI scan of the lower back.

A peripheral nerve problem could cause such an issue such as entrapment or inflammation. This could be diagnosed using nerve conduction studies. If this was the issue then some blood work would be necessary to look for causes of such a problem such as diabetes.

I hope this answers your questions. Numbness presenting in this location without any additional symptoms is unusual.

Best wishes

Brief Answer:
Yes ms a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for tie follow up question.

Yes you are right these symptoms are consistent with a condition like MS as they would not be produced by a problem in one particular location in the nervous system. The left arm, right leg and the chin are all controlled by different areas in the brain and spinal cord. That is why I suggested in my original answer that your daughter needs to have an MRI scan of her brain and possibly also her spinal cord.

Only a condition like MS could produce symptoms in these locations.

I would encourage get your dr to a neurologist for a through physical assessment and an MRI scan.

best wishes
