What Causes Numbness Below Eye And Cheek Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 May 2014
Question: Hi I woke this morning after oversleeping and the right side of my face from the top of my lip to below my eye and cheek area felt strange. A bit like what it feel like after being to the dentist when the anaesthetic is wearing off. My face looks normal but may be slightly swollen in the affected area. My face does not appear as it feels. The symptoms have increased a bit over the day as the area effected is greater. I am 50 years old and female. 3 days ago, I was hit on the nose by a wayward football, it did hurt at the time but did not cause any bruising. Should I be worried and see a dr or wait overnight to see how I am in the morning? Many thanks XXXX

Brief Answer: It can be facial nerve injury Detailed Answer: Hello Madam, I have read your case and i can think of two conditions. 1. It can be a soft tissue injury due to football. Some time swelling arise little latter. Due to fluid collection you feel numbness. 2.There are chances of fascial nerve injury, also called bell's palsy. In this condition there is hypoasthesia of the face and patient is not able to move facial muscles. I would suggest you to show it to a surgeon ( Dental/ENT).He can examine it and may get x ray of the face. Till that time , I would suggest you to apply ice and take Brufen for pain relief. Do not do any more delay in seeing doctor. I hope this answer will help you. Let me know if you want to ask any thing else. Thanks and take care.
