What Causes Missed Period Despite A Negative UPT?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Dec 2016
Question: Hi Doctor. I am 12 days late for my menstruation. I have tried pregnancy exams at home and the response was negative. I have gall stones and I have a surgery booked for next January. Is it is possible that the gallbladder issues can be affecting my menstruation? I have recently done gynecological exams and doctors said all levels were normal.

Brief Answer:
Gall bladder issues do not affect it.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Gall bladder issues do not affect the menstruation. The delay in periods can eb due to stress, anxiety, irregular diet or sleep habits, hormonal changes, etc. Since the pregnancy test is negative there is no need to worry. Wait for a week more and in case periods do not start then consult your gynecologist for hormonal tablets to get a withdrawal bleeding.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I have not had any of the possible other problems you mentioned that causes delay. Should I ask for any specific hormonal exam?
Some months ago (around 4) I had a period that lasted for 20 days, reason why i had all my levels checked.
Also, would it be possible that gallbladders "hide" a pregnancy? Should i try the blood exam as well or not?

Brief Answer:
Urine test is 97% accurate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If this has happened for the first time then you can wait. Otherwise detailed hormonal tests will be needed under supervision of your gynecologist. Gall bladders do not hide a pregnancy. Urine test is 97% accurate. Blood test is even more accurate. No need to worry.
Hope my answer is helpful.
