What Causes Lymph Node Swelling In The Bicep Area?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Apr 2017
Question: Hi. I'm a 47 year old male. I have a swollen gland on my inner left bicep. The fourth day now. Not getting bigger but is tender. It is not overly firm and is a distinct bean shape that does move up and down, back and forth. I'm willing to give it another 10 days before doctor visit but I still have a lot of anxiety. What do you think? Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
Most probably a not dangerous lymph node, just a reactive one.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

The lymphnodes in that area (always if you are sure that it is a lymphnode and not just an accumulation of fat under the skin) in general are frequent because of the inflammation of the hair follicles in the armpit. The fact that it is tender, confirms that it is a reactive lymphnode which means a lympnode from inflammation and not a malign lymphnode.
I think that it can wait for 10-30 days and that most probably it is nothing to worry about. The positive signs that makes me thing that it is not a malign node are:
- Tender
- movable
- regular bean shape.

If worse or not better after this time, I would recommend seeing a local doctor. Of course, at that point it may need further exams to confirm what it is.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Dr. Papaqako

Thank you Dr. Papaqako. That puts me a little more at ease until I get it checked out. Hopefully within 10 days or so it will have gone back to normal.
