What Causes Lumps Near Jaw Lines?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Jul 2014
Question: Hi,

Okay......for the last 7 years or so I have had a lumps on each side of my throat just under my jaw line. The first one appears about 7 years ago on my right side and about 2 years....I went to the Dr for the first one and after an ultrasound, he said it was nothing to worry about but then the second one appeared and they have managed to get bigger......as a sense of humour, I have named them and say I am going to charge them rent LOL.......on a serious note, is this something I should be worried about? I have noticed in the last few months my energy levels are low, I don't have that big of an apitite and I get a weird pain that will shoot up to my ear......I go to the dentist all the time so I know there is no problems with my teeth but haven't a clue what it would be...

Brief Answer:
Need an otorhinolaryngologist opinion

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
Lumps near jaw lines are most likely inflamed lymph nodes.some other possibilities are of branchial cysts, dermoid cysts, enlarged thyroid, fat pads like lipoma etc all innocuous. If the doctor has evaluated them and ruled them out for any trouble then i am sure you are safe. A lymph node can swell from a simple ear nose or throat infection or even a dental infection. Pain to the ear makes the suspicion of an infection of Upper respiratory tract or ENT more likely. But the loss of appetite and low on energies symptoms need to be a bit clinically correlated deeper like if you have lost weight, if the lumps are painless, if you get drenching sweats in the midnight, if there is any palpable liver or spleen, then it might be worrisome but i am sure they have ruled those out.
Rest assured a one stop visit to an otorhinolaryngologist will sooth your troubles and help you in your condition. You are in safe hands.
I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
