What Causes Lower Intestinal Cramps, Constipation And Pain In Lower Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 May 2016
Question: hello. I am a 55 year old male in very good health. On Monday this week, I experienced the onset of lower intestinal cramps/spasms which felt similar to when you have a gastrointestinal irritation that usually follows with diarrhea. I did not have diarrhea, but my stool was thin shaped. I took a laxative Tuesday thinking it might be constipation. Just one dose of OTC Ducalax. No effect. I then took some magnesium nitrate yesterday, and it was effective, but woke up this morning with similar pressure/pain in my lower abdomen. It appears I have darker than normal urine. On Monday, I felt fluish, with chills, however temperature was below normal 97.1 then 98.3. that subsided on Tuesday. I feel fine other wise. I took Ibuprofen this morning. It is not acute pain, and tolerable, but before I took the laxative, I would feel pressure like I needed to have a bowel movement, but did not. Has not happened before. I have no recent history of gastroenteritis, 2 weeks ago I had my annual colonoscopy and two precancerous polyps were removed with no other remarkable condition and a recommendation to be seen again in one year

Detailed Answer:
Welcome at HCM....
I am DR XXXXXXX XXXXXXX and will be answering your query.
I have gone through your query and being your physician I totally understands your health concerns.
If there is no pain in abdomen while palpating and you are passing flatus then you should not be worried about it. just stay calm and you need to use the GLYCERINE SUPPOSITORIES per rectally three times a day along with the syrup LACTULOSE.
If the problem persists despite this, then you should meet your physician. There is need to get your X RAY erect abdomen along with the ULTRASOUND SCAN of the abdomen and pelvis. After then we will be able to proceed.
As far as colonoscopy is concerned , you should get your colonoscopy on your scheduled time.
Meanwhile stay calm and use high fiber diet.
Hope your query is adequately addressed , if you still have any feel free to ask anytime.
Regards
