Brief Answer:
you should get a diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

left lower abdominal pain can be caused by various disorders so I'll mention some of them in the following list:
- diverticulitis: patients above 60 years of age commonly have diverticula particularly if they're constipated. Sometimes the diverticula may become inflammed and cause pain and perhaps also diarrhea and fever. Such cases require antibiotic treatment and special diet. The doctor suspects this disorder with clinical examination but a CT scan is necessary for the diagnosis.
- constipation: constipation itself may cause discomfort sometimes. Relief after going to the toilet is expected...
- irritable bowel syndrome: usually occurs again and again in certain individuals particularly during periods of stress or when "irritating food" is consumed. This diagnosis requires other disorders to be excluded first and there is no diagnostic test.
- hernias: they tend to cause discomfort or pain when the patient increases the abdominal pressure (like when straining or when lifting weights ,etc). Clinical examination should be necessary for an experienced surgeon to diagnose a hernia.
- urinary tract infections may cause lower abdominal pain (mostly on the center but left-sided pain is also possible. Left ureter partial obstruction may also cause left sided pain when the obstructing structure is stuck right before the entrance of the bladder. An ultrasound scan would diagnose the obstruction. A urinalysis would provide the necessary data for the diagnosis of a urinary tract infection.

So I've mentioned some of the most common causes of lower left abdominal pain. It's up to your doctor to determine the cause with clinical examination and perhaps further testing.

Without a diagnosis you can't do much except using a mild analgesic like paracetamol (acetaminophen).

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind regards!
