Brief Answer:
Hematoma is much more possible than veins thrombosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Most probably the large bump is caused by some veins rupture and blood accumulation in the soft tissues (it is called hematoma). Blood clot is less probable, however injury is one of the veins thrombosis factor. It is more possible if you take any anticoagulants.

Veins thrombosis usually give hard an painful calf. The pain usually get worse when walking. If you hit with the front of your shin, it is less probable than a hematoma.

If the injury was pretty hard and you hit with the bone, some bone injury (like small peace of it fracture) should be also considered.

I suggest you to consult general surgeon. If the bump is tender, soft tissues ultrasound should be done to rule any hematoma out. Large hematoma needs to be drained. An x-ray is also advisable. Even if the symptoms do not point to fracture. For veins thrombosis diagnostics Dopplers veins ultrasound should be done, however.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
