Question: Need an orthopedic surgeon to answer postop question

I am a week post surgery after a medial meniscus tear. Tear was irregular and longitudinal. I felt great up till yesterday. Since then my knee is buckling. In fact it is buckling on the same knee, but the lateral seems to be the issue. Dr said it looked ok when he was in there. Now what. Could i have torn my MCL ?

Brief Answer:
Weak knee muscles post surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

It is possible that the knee muscles are weak post surgery which needs physiotherapy to get back to the normal strength. This is quite common after surgery and you need not worry about it. Just follow strict physiotherapy protocol according to your Surgeon and Physiotherapist.

Since your Surgeon has not noticed anything wrong with the MCL, there is less chance of its injury.

Wear a hinged knee brace and avoid weight bearing.

I hope I have answered your query.
