Question: Hello Sir,
My mother aged 55 was diagnostic with Schezopenia by Psychiatric at Manipal Hospital XXXXXXX She started taking sizodon 1mg in September for 1 week, then the mg was increased gradually to 6mg by doctor's cosultation. after taking 6mg for 2 weeks she became normal in behavior. then doctor prescribed us 4 mg for 2 weeks and 3mg for 6 months. but after taking 3mg for 2 mnths she started complaining pain in her all joints specially in fingers, shoulder, neck along with burning sensation all over body. She is feeling very less power in her hands, palm and legs. Not able to perform normal household things like cooking and even comb her hair due to less power in hand. Not getting sleep also in night. so she immediately stopped sizodon in december 24th, 2014. after 15 days we consulted doctor again and now he prescribed below 2 medicines -
sizodon 2mg and sensival 25mg for 1 months of time.
she took these tablets for 4 days but since her pain did not reduce and since her symptoms resembles to that of arthritics so we have also started medication for arthritics treatment now through homeopathy. So please suggest if we should continue the above 2 prescribed medicines now or can we stop these 2 and proceed with only the medication of arthritics. she has already stopped these medicines for last 3 days.

Brief Answer:
continue with sizodone and sensival.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

You mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia at manipal hospital, XXXXXXX and was given sizodone for it. She developed insomnia and burning sensation in whole body and joint pain. Then she was again started with sizodone and sensival was added.

I can understand your concerns for your mother.

I would advice you to continue with the drugs prescribed to her. The reason for this is schizophrenia is a relapsing illness and tend to become chronic if not treated properly.

Sizodone is an antipsychotic given for this.

Sensival would have been prescribed for burning sensation as it acts well for these symptoms.

The drugs take 2-3 weeks to show their effect. 4 days of treatment is not enough to get the results. So you have to wait for this time to see noticeable change.
You can give homoeopathic medicines alongwith that.

Hope this answers your query.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

Thanks for the response.

What would be the best way to get rid of Sizodone now, as we do not want to take any further risk of side effect. If we stop sizodone right away then apart from re-occurrence of schizophrenia, is there any other complication which is expected?

Does Sensival 25mg also has any side effects and can we stop it immediately or this also needs to be stop gradually like sizodone?

Brief Answer:
both drugs can be stopped immediately.

Detailed Answer:
You are welcome dear.

Bothe sizodone can be stopped immediately.

There would be no major side effects of stopping these two drugs immediately other than relapse of illness.

Sensival can commonly cause constipation, difficulty in passing urine, dry mouth, blurring of vision, dizziness and lightheadedness.

Hope this answers your query satisfactorily.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.
