What Causes Itchy Rashes On The Torso While On Azithromycin?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I am recovering from pneumonia after being in the hospital for 4 days. I was release 5 days ago (Sat). I have since finished a course of AZITHROMYCIN 3 days ago. I am currently taking Cefuroxime Axetil and Cheratussin AC at night to help with cough and sleep. I have been taking both since being release from the hospital. Just this evening, I began developing an itchy rash on my torso. Could this be due to the medication or some other reason?

Brief answer.....could be due to cefuroxime
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
CEFUROXIME is known to cause itching and rash on the body in few individuals but whether your rash is due to this, can not be said definitely.
Apply local calamine lotion and take some anti allergic like FEXOFENADINE 180 mg every day for few days.
You should be concerned......if rash increases or blister formation starts taking place. In such a case, stop the cefuroxime and consult your doctor immediately.
I hope it helps however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
