default
Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: Hello, I am curious as to if this is normal? I always have regular periods, they start around the exact same time all the time and last 4-5 days. Starting in December I have had 12 day periods, with no cramping, just bleeding, once the 12 days was up i went 6 days off my period and then back on for 14 days, its now been 7 days and I have started my period again. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
No. It needs treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The irregular and heavy bleeding that you are having can be due to uterine fibroids, polyps or hormonal disturbances, etc. This is not normal. For diagnosis, you need to have an ultrasound scan of your lower abdomen.
To decrease the bleeding you need to have progesteone pills along with hemostatic agents like ethamsylate or tranexaemic acid after consulting with your gynaecologist.
Meanwhile start taking iron supplements to combat excessive blood loss from your body.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
