What Causes Intermittent Tingling Sensation Around The Eyes And Cheeks?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: I am experiencing intermittent tightening/pulling/tingling sensations around my eyes and cheeks. I had a cold about 4 weeks ago and this is when the symptoms started. I've also had pressure around my nose and upper teeth and severe post nasal drip on and off but the nasal congestion has been gone for the past two weeks. Generally these symptoms go away when I lie down. I've had sinusitis before but the tingling and pulling sensations are not something I have experienced. I'm taking Alavert and Flonase and Sudafed when I've had the pressure. Could this still be sinusitis?

Brief Answer:
Cause of tingling sensation over face

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Yes, you are right, the bilateral tingling sensation around eyes/cheeks, pressure in nose/teeth, postnasal drip are most probably due to "sinusitis". It is more likely in your case as you are having allergy history also. If it would have been focal tingling or one side tingling, I could have thought of trigeminal nerve as the root cause of it.

To treat it, you can follow few tips

- Take steam daily. When symptoms are severe, you can take it 4-5 times.

- Avoid cold food, cool air to decrease pressure feeling

- You can take tablet Cetrizine with Xylomtazoline and Paracetamol after proper prescription. It will treat your tingling and post nasal drip.

- You can take antibiotic course like co-amoxyclav therapy after proper prescription. It should be taken for at least 7 days to treat sinusitis.

- Drink hot/warm drinks like tea/coffee to relieve pressure feeling in head.

- If still no relief, consult ENT specialist for any possibility of nasal polyp or deviated nasal septum which might be aggravating your symptoms.

Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
